US Soccer Creating Women’s National Futsal Team

The women’s futsal revolution in North America is officially here.

In a move highly anticipated for many months, US Soccer has started the process for the creation of its women’s national futsal team.

They have posted a job for a new women’s head coach as seen here.

The move is easily the biggest for women’s futsal growth in the history of the CONCACAF region. It will inevitably force other national federations to establish their own women’s national teams, including Canada, which has an emerging female futsal culture already.

Although some of the terminology included in the job posting leaves much to be desired for the culture of futsal, for example, the numerous times the game was referred to as “futsal soccer”, as well as the requirement to transition soccer and indoor soccer players to futsal, it still is a big win for not only futsal but women’s sport at large.

It is believed that the long overdue creation of a FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup is not far away and this move will certainly help put the United States at the top of the pack in CONCACAF for when that tournament is established.
