A sport is only as good as its officiating and that is why at Futsal Canada we place a strong priority on developing and recognizing officials.

Futsal Canada have been the undisputed leader of giving elite futsal referees opportunities to hone their craft. Established by Canada’s first ever FIFA Futsal Referee Instructor and Assessor, the late and great, Bob Tibbo, Futsal Canada conducted many courses and educational sessions to help existing soccer referees make the transition into futsal or furthering existing futsal referees within provincial and territorial associations under Canada Soccer. Many of our referees are highly sought for tournaments here and in the United States into high performance competitions here and abroad. We are also proud to have our own Futsal Referee Committee composed of elite Canadian futsal referees.

In 2018 Chris Grabas was the first Canadian official to receive a FIFA Futsal Referee badge and officiated until his retirement at the end of 2024. He participated in two CONCACAF Futsal Championships.

Alexis Vaughan became the first Canadian woman to be named to the FIFA Futsal Referee List in 2026.
