Philippines Selected as Hosts of 1st FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup

At the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, it was announced by the FIFA Council that FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup 2025 will be hosted by the Philippines.

The 16 team competition is expected to take place in the fall of 2025, with CONCACAF having two spots allocated for qualification to the inaugural competition.

The Philippines have recently hosted the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and were also selected by the FIVB to host the 2025 Women’s Volleyball World Cup. This is the first FIFA World Cup that the Philippines will host.

Many observers had thought Spain, Italy, Portugal, or Thailand would win the bid given their prior investment into women’s futsal over the years, however the growth of the sport in Asia will see the AFC play home to both World Cups, with Uzbekistan hosting the men’s competition later this September.

It has been a long time coming for the Women’s Futsal World Cup and after the tremendous success of the girl’s competition in the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, this latest development is a huge positive for the sport.
