The Boca Juniors of the Toronto Futsal League have won the 2010 OSA Futsal with a commanding 9-1 victory over the Ottawa Quattro Stella Sunday afternoon at Carleton University.

After going undefeated in their group stage matches by a combined score of 16-8 including wins over the OCFL’s top two teams, Boca went on to beat the Ottawa Crushers who earned the 2nd playoff spot in group B by a 7-3 scoreline.

Many were hoping to see another epic battle between Ottawa’s #1 ranked team, CUFC Ottawa, vs Boca. The teams played in a scrappy semi-final affair at the Toronto Invitational Futsal Tournament (TIFT) last month where Boca had won 4-0. They also played in the group stage where Boca grinded out a 5-4 win. However, Ottawa Quattro Stella had put an end to a third match by upsetting CUFC in penalties 6-5 after a 6-6 score in regulation.

Boca had no troubles in the final adn went on to deliver a clinical performance to earn their 1st ever championship. They have played bridesmaid to their TFL rival’s the Toronto Impact at the TIFT, Durham Futsal Showcase and they also currently sit in 2nd place in the TFL. The win gives the team a huge confidence boost going into the final stretch of the futsal season and playoff run.

“It feels really good to win the title here because we have some unfinished business back home in the league and a big win like this is going to take us to another level .” Said Boca Juniors Head Coach and General Manager Juan Gonzalez.

“Our guys were pretty tired after the 1st day. You could tell that playing 3 games in such a short time on the first day took a lot out of all the teams but fortunately we have a team of top class futsal players that were able to step it up when it counted most. We’re hopeful that this isn’t going to be our only trophy of the season.”

The OSA Futsal Cup was held at the Carleton University and featured 7 teams representing teams from Ottawa, Toronto and St. Catherines. The youth edition (U14 boys and U16 girls) takes place next weekend (Feb 20/21st) at Downsview Park in Toronto.

They played each other in the semi-finals at the Toronto Invitational Futsal Tournament 3 weeks ago in what was a chippy affair. Don’t be surprised to see them both in the finals.
