It was a historic achievement for Nicaragua as they win their first ever title in either football or futsal after winning the first edition of the Fifa Forward U20 futsal tournament.

Hosted at the famed Domo Polideportivo by Guatemala and created by CAF (Union of Central American Nations), the competition featured six countries; Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Cuba, and Nicaragua.

Despite opening the tournament with a 4-0 loss to the hosts, Nicaragua rebounded with a strong 4-3 victory over Mexico. They then earned a spot into the finals after a victory over 4-2 result over a tough Cuban side.

Costa Rica have been the dominant futsal nation in CONCACAF for the past decade and were heavily touted to win but were surprised with a strong collective performance that saw Nicaragua win 4-0 to hoist the trophy. Goals were scored by Andy Cruz, Wesly Ruiz, Julio Espinoza, and Cristian Fuentes.

A 5-2 win over Cuba was enough for Guatemala to earn the bronze medal.
