After strong performances during the CONCACAF Futsal Championships in Guatemala this past May, Joshua Lemos has been awarded the Futsal Player of the Year by Canada Soccer.

A pillar of the program since 2012, Lemos has been the starting goalkeeper for Canada for three consecutive World Cup Qualifying campaigns and has at least one more left in his career. His stellar play in goal led Canada to almost advancing to the Futsal World Cup for the first time since 1989.

Lemos not only fully recovered from a devastating lower body injury in 2019, which almost prevented him from joining the national team, but the CONCACAF Championships were postponed to 2021, allowing him to come back stronger than ever in goal.

Although not fully recognized, Lemos was also selected as Futsal Player of the Year in 2016 after his performances in Costa Rica at the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championships in Costa Rica. He is Canada’s all time leader in wins, saves, as well as games played by a GK.
