The Hamilton Futsal Championship finished up this past weekend in the Steel City with a thrilling match between Paketenaikos Futsal Club and Leicester Futsal.

This was the second season of the Hamilton Futsal League and the men’s division completely filled up for this year’s edition featuring elite futsal and soccer talent from across the Golden Horseshoe region including Niagara Falls, Mississauga, Guelph, and St. Catherines.

Leicester finished in 4th during the regular season with a record of 7-5-2 (W-L-T) while Paketenaikos went undefeated going 11-0-2 en route to winning the league portion of the competition.

A capacity crowd at St. Michael’s saw an intense match from the start that with Paketenaikos’ dynamic duo Alejandro Uribe and Camilo Veloza leading the offensive charge in the first half. But for every time the favourites struck it was Leicester that responded within moments courtesy of Hugo De La Rosa.

The 2nd half saw Paketenaikos showcase why they averaged over eight goals per match during the regular season with Uribe and Veloza each striking a brace to take a commanding four goal lead with just under seven minutes. But Leicester refused to give in and made things very interesting notching three answered goals with 90 seconds left on the clock. But Veloza broke their hearts soon after by putting away a low shot in the left corner that clinched the title and the Hamilton double with an 8-6 victory.
