GolTV Acquires Canadian TV rights to UEFA Futsal Competitions

Canadians will get a big taste of top international futsal as GolTV announced this week that they have acquired the rights to broadcast UEFA’s Futsal events in Canada and the US. This move is only going to be a big boost to the sport’s growing popularity.
MIAMI – GolTV, the network delivering the most celebrated international futbol, announced today that it has reached a multi-year agreement with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for the exclusive media rights to UEFA’s Youth, Women and Futsal competitions in Canada and USA.
“Drawing on the popularity of soccer as one of the top youth sports in the U.S., GolTV will also offer young viewers a glimpse of rising soccer stars and ignite the passion of boys and girls alike.”
GolTV will televise these UEFA competitions through to 2013, highlighting the annual editions of the men and women youth national team European championships at Under-19 and Under-17 levels, the UEFA Women’s Champions League final and the UEFA Futsal Cup, the yearly futsal club competition. In addition, GolTV will also televise selected matches from the 2012 UEFA European Futsal Championship, to be held in Croatia.
GolTV’s UEFA telecasts will mark the debut of women’s soccer on the network as well as the introduction of futsal, a fast-paced indoor futbol format, to GolTV viewers.
GolTV will feature selected matches from these UEFA competitions starting today (May 12) with the semi-finals of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship; followed by the tournament’s final on Sunday May 15.
Other upcoming 2011 tournament dates are as follows:
•UEFA Women’s Champions League Final: May 26
•UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship: May 30 to June 11
•UEFA European Under-19 Championship: July 20 to August 1
•UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship: July 28 to July 31
