Gun violence in Toronto has hit another low.
Respected futsal and soccer referee Edwin Farley Alvarado Quintero has sadly passed away after a terrible and senseless act of violence occurred on Sunday evening.
The respected 49 year-old official from Woodbridge, Ontario was simply doing his job and passion as a referee when a fight broke out inside the La Liga Sports Complex in Toronto.
The dispute escalated to the level where a man armed with a gun fired shots into the venue hitting three men. Tragically Mr. Alvarado succumbed to his injuries.
Everyone at Futsal Canada sends our deepest sympathies to his family.
No one should ever have to go to a game and face violence in any way. We absolutely condemn in the strongest words possible this deplorable and cowardly act.
Again a GoFundMe has been setup for the family. Please give what you can.
Anyone with any information to help catch the perpetrator is urged to please call Toronto police at 416-808-7400, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.222tips.com.
