The newest member of Futsal Canada kicked off their inaugural season as Futsal Kingston successfully launched their new league this past Saturday.

The brainchild of referee Alex Fletcher and mens player Phil Benevides, Futsal Kingston finally came to fruition this past Saturday when the first league game kicked off at Holy Cross Secondary.

After coming to Toronto this past summer along with nine other league owners and operators from across the country for the Futsal Canada Conference, both Fletcher and Benevides knew they had the right game plan, connections, and now support to operate a successful futal league in the soccer rich Eastern Ontario city. It is the first sanctioned league in the region.

They held their first referee course  last month and were able to generate a decent cast of experienced soccer officials that will now take on the challenge of adapting to the five a side game.

The league initially is starting with eight teams with a Senior Varsity Boys Division starting in December and having two quality and certified referees was certainly incentive enough but it didn’t hurt that as Futsal Canada members, the league champions will earn a spot at the Nationals in April.

The organization aims to reach 24 mens teams in the next few seasons and wants to ensure that a proper pyramid of play exists for their youth divisions to ensure long term sustainability for the region.
