The 2009 Ontario Soccer Association’s Futsal Conference took place this past weekend at the Soccer Centre in Vaughn, ONT. It is the first meeting of its kind to help educate on and promote the sport while providing a networking opportunity for soccer and futsal administrators to help establish leagues and programs into new regions in the province and build upon existing ones.

Put together by the OSA Futsal Committee, the conference invited a diverse cast of individuals from varying positions within the Ontario soccer/futsal landscape. District chiefs from Huronia, Durham and York along with coaches, referees, players and administrators, and other special guests came to learn more about the game and the direction it is moving towards.

Presentations were made by the four members of the committee on the current status and future of coaching and referee certification programs, tournament planning and also called for recommendations from attendees.

Strong ideas and lengthy discussion were the order of the day and resulted in some very informative and intriguing ideas that many will hope lead to greater exposure and participation in the sport.
