Futsal Canada National Invitational Starts Saturday

Top teams at the Varsity Boys and Men’s divisions will vie for the crown this weekend at Queen’s University for the 1st ever Futsal Canada National Invitational. Full updates through the weekend right here and Twitter @futsalcanada using hashtag #futsalcanada.
It is the culmination of hard work from several leagues across the country that now results in the first Futsal Canada National Invitational. It is the first time that the majority of futsal leagues have united together to put on what will be one of the best futsal competitions of the year.
Featuring top teams and referees from the epicentre of Canadian futsal, Quebec and Ontario, it is the first of a three year plan to build a national competition between top leagues under the FIFA system, while bringing together key executives and builders of the game for a series of meetings to progress the sport leading up to the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
The action kicks off 10am Saturday as Kingston Boca take on Ottawa Wired at the old Queen’s Varsity Bartlett gymnasium while Kingston McBride will look to make a big splash in front of the home crowd as they face KW City FC from Waterloo at the fantastic new Athletic Recreation Centre.
Defi Futsal Winners and Toronto’s top team, Toronto Boca Juniors, take on their rivals from Quebec, the powerful VTL, which should be another epic contest after their two previous battles this season that both went to penalties. This game will be streamed internationally at 4:40pm EST for those not able to enjoy it live.
The Varsity Boys Division (U16-17) will see Kingston’s top team Cataraqui Clippers face Toronto Futsal League champions Unionville Milliken SC while LAC London face the Ottawa Warriors in a pivotal match at 11:40am.
Entry is free to all and will be part of a special futsal and soccer weekend at Queen’s which is also hosting the opening weekend of the Ontario Premier Development League. Select games will be streamed on Ustream while the championship matches will be broadcast live on Cogeco TV starting at 2pm EST and 3:30pm on Sunday May 4th.
Check back here for constant updates on internet streaming games on Saturday.
The official match ball of the tournament is the dynamic Umbro Neo Futsal Pro which will provide players with an excellent FIFA approved ball for high performance.
