FIFA Futsal World Cup One Year Away

The 2020 FIFA Futsal World Cup is now only a year away. The competition will be held in Lithuania from September 12th-October 4th where the top 24 teams will compete for futsal’s most prized international title.

Here is a breakdown of each continental qualifying competition and the spots allocated to each confederation.

Canada will embark on their quest to make their first World Cup since 1989 with training camps this fall before the CONCACAF Futsal Championships take place in spring 2020.

AFC (Asian Football Confederation)
World Cup Spots: 5
Continental Qualifications: 2020 AFC Futsal Championship – Turkmenistan (27 February – 8 March 2020), preliminary round (16 – 27 October 2019)

CAF (Confédération Africaine de Football)
World Cup Spots: 3
Continental Qualifications: 2020 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations – Morocco (28 January – 9 February 2020)

CONCACAF (The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football)
World Cup Spots: 4

CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation)
World Cup Spots: 4
Continental Qualifications: South American futsal qualifiers (dates TBC)

OFC (Oceania Football Confederation)
World Cup Spots: 1
Continental Qualifications: 2019 OFC Futsal Nations Cup, Noumea, New Caledonia (28 October – 2 November 2019)
Teams: New Caledonia (hosts), American Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, Vanuatu

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations)
World Cup Spots: 6 + hosts (Lithuania)
Continental Qualifications: preliminary round (29 January – 3 February 2019), main round (22 – 27 October 2019), elite round (28 January – 2 February 2020), play-offs (9 & 12 April 2020)
