FIFA Announce that the $40 million Bangkok Arena will not be used during the World Cup
BANGKOK – FIFA announced today that the Bangkok Arena will not be ready in time to use at any point during the 2012 Futsal World Cup which is currently underway.
The announcement is heavily disappointing as approximately $40 million was spent to build the venue which was to be the showpiece of the competition. The final decision follows many construction and decision delays but ultimately FIFA believed the venue was not yet adequate for the competition.
The move is seen as a monster blow to not just the tournament but to Thailand as a whole which had construction working around the clock for weeks leading up to the tournament which kicked off on November 1st.
