Thanks to www.thai-fussball.com for the full story. The countdown to the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012, officially kicked off since this week. Finally, on a press conference, with a lot of celebrities, the competitive logo was introduced. For the first time 24 nations take part the world championship which will be held in November later this year.

From the 2 November to 18 November 2012 the 7th Futsal world championship takes place in Thailand. On a media event which had not much to offer except richly political top brass, the official logo was introduced to the world and in therefore rang the countdown. Beside federation president Worawi Makudi and Suwat Liptapanlop, prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra gave herself the honor. Everybody agreed that the world championship offers a big chance for Thailand and is a big honor to host it.

Thailand as host is automatically qualified. Up to now only the Solomon Islands are qualified besides. The single qualifications of each of the continental federations, up to Oceania, are determined in the course of the year. The defending champion is Brazil. Together with Spain the South American side usually battled for the title since introduction of the world championship.

In Asia at first, all nations need to fight their way through a pre-tournament. For ASEAN, by the way, this one takes place, from 21 February to 23 February in Bangkok. Then the best ones qualifying for the AFC Futsal Championship in May and again the best, eventually qualify for the world championship.

Brazil hosted the last world championship in 2008. In Thailand, for the first time 24 nations are going to participate the worlds biggest Futsal event. As hosting cities Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima are defined. While there is just one venue in Korat, there are three different ones in Bangkok. Just for this event, a new 1.2 billion Baht stadium, with 12.000 seats is to be build in Nong Jork. Journalists like Jens Weinreich and Jesse Fink expressed their concerns about, because the to be constructed hall will be on or around, land which belongs to FAT President Maukdi. The building area is just five kilometer away from the FA headquarter. Just recently, in November of last year, Makudi has transferred the land where the FA has its buildings, in argumentative manner. However, originally Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Suphanburi where other places considered as hosting cities alongside Korat and Bangkok.

Futsal World Cup Logo 2nd choice couldn’t make it

Still last year some pretty good activities were planned, under the motto “Road to Futsal World Cup”. Unfortunately, nothing left over since the dismissal of “Mr Futsal” Adisak Benjasiriwan as technical manager in May 2011. Over the past six months, there were hardly events which were designed to inspire and to inform the population as planned, about the forthcoming world championship.

Now, 50 Tuk-Tuks, known for environmental friendliness, with the very expressive label “Thailand in 2012” are driving through Bangkok. The mascot will be a ball playing elephant. Very enterprising. Whether Thailand’s “Mr Futsal” would have had a better inspiration, is not known to us.

Exclusively, on the left side, you can see the 2nd choice World Cup logo, which could not make it to become the first choice. About six months ago we got the chance to see both drafts. Asked about our opinion, we voted for the one which finally is the official now.
