Falcao Moves: World’s most recognizable futsal player joins Santos FC

Malwee recently confirmed what had been expected and announced the end of sponsorship of the futsal team of Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, which took its name. Thus, Falção, star of the company is free to confirm his commitment to Santos FC next season.

Licinio Barros, a Brazilian agent for professional futsal players, confirmed Falção’s move to Santos in an e-mail to Super F World on Dec. 8.

“Falção will be officially presented today at Santos FC,” Barros said. “Futsal Malwee really over.”

Fernando Ferretti, the coach of Malwee/Jaragua do Sul, is also expected to be announced as Santos FC’s new futsal coach.

Malwee, a clothing manufacturer also located in Jaragua do Sul, issued the following announcement in severing its sponsorship of the futsal team:

“At the end of 2010, register the end of a sponsorship which established the futsal team Jaragua. At the end of this cycle victorious Malwee thank the dedication of everyone, and especially the press and fans of this passionate (team), who packed the stands and sent positive vibes, smiled when he saw the team play and created an identity that will surely be remembered by many and many years,” Malwee said in a statement published on the team Web site.

The company’s confirmation put an end to rumors that began in September, when it was first learned that Santos was interested in Falção. At the time, it was thought that the Malwee would end a partnership that was created in 2001.

During that period, the team won Liga Futsal, the Brazilian league, four times. The fourth came recently when Falcao and his teammates defeated Copagrill 2-0 in the final.

The Malwee/Jaraguá – previously called Associação Desportiva Jaraguá was founded in 1992 and has been one of the most successful futsal clubs of the sport in Brazil. This season’s Liga Futsal title tied Malwee with two other Brazilian clubs for the most in league history.

Falção, widely considered the best futsal player in the world, has been featured frequently in the Video Picks section of the Super F World newsletter. A search for his name on You Tube will produce numerous videos.
