Canada will find themselves with familiar faces at the 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship that is taking place from April 13-20th in Managua, Nicaragua.
Canada was drawn alongside Panama, Cuba, and Nicaragua in Group B.
Their opening game is set for Saturday April 13th when they take on Cuba. Back at the 2016 edition of the competition, Canada needed just a draw in their final group stage match against the Cubans to advance to the FIFA Futsal World Cup but were downed in a 7-4 loss.
Their second game, the following night, will see them seek revenge against Panama, the team that eliminated them at the last tournament in 2021 in Guatemala.
The final group stage match sees Canada taking on hosts Nicaragua in what will certainly be in front of a hostile home crowd.
The 12 team competition format sees three groups of four playing a three game round robin. The top two in each group along with the two best third place teams advance to the quarter-finals. The winners of those matches will not only move on to the semi finals but will also book a coveted ticket to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024.
Group A sees three-time defending champions Costa Rica taking on Mexico, Haiti, and Suriname. Group C finds Guatemala, the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Dominican Republic together.
Canada are looking to qualify for the first time since the inaugural tournament in 1989.
