BCI boys, girls win futsal tournaments

The Brantford Collegiate Institute boys and junior girls teams won Ontario high school futsal tournaments in Cambridge on the weekend.

Futsal is a version of indoor soccer played with five players aside. The boys’ team beat Goderich DC 8-2 in the semifinals before downing defending champions Owen Sound 3-1 in the final.

Aaron Embry, Marc Lehi Milbin, Dave Locke, Zach Tait and Dalton Bage were outstanding.

The junior girls shut out all opposition in winning its title, defeating Orchard Park Secondary School 9-0, Kitchener Collegiate 5-0 and Goderich DCI 7-0 in preliminary play before beating two-time defending champion Kitchener Collegiate 3-0 in the final.

Erika Gardiner, Shelby Percival, Laura Manfredi, Emily McIntyre, Chelsea Lefler, Claudia Di Francesco, Sarah Peters, Lindsay Lang and Jasmine Sahota were outstanding.

Goalkeeper Gardiner stopped all shots sent her way, including five penalties, while Sahota was the top scorer in the tournament with 14 goals.
