Two players from the Barrie Futsal Club have been chosen to take part in a travelling team from southern California in that team’s FIFA Women’s World Cup tour later this month.

Caroline Orellana and Santana Ferreira have been selected by representatives from SOCAL Select FC to be a part of their soccer team for this tour.

The California club is coming to Canada from June 25 to July 7 to participate in the Mac’s Power Play Cup — a premier-level tournament — in Edmonton. They will also take part in some friendly matches against some Calgary teams, as well as see some of the FIFA 2015 Women’s World Cup matches live in Edmonton and Vancouver.

Orellana is a skilled midfielder who has been playing soccer and futsal since age five and is a “playmaker type.”

Ferreira, meanwhile, is a skilled goalkeeper with exceptional reflexes and great overall game sense.

Both Barrie girls have been training and playing hard through the winter and spring in preparation for the possibility of being chosen to take part in this opportunity.

The two girls say they are looking forward to the new experience of playing with international players in competition.

They hope the Canadian women’s national team makes it through to the semifinals so they can watch them in action in Edmonton.
