3rd Futsal Fiesta hits Richmond

185 boys and girls teams entered the third annual Richmond Futsal Festival
at the Richmond Olympic Oval on January 8th and 9th.

 

1,800 players aged four to eighteen learned how fast-paced and fun the game
of Futsal is to play.

The festival featured 250 games, with play on nine futsal courts at one time
With teams traveling up to 100 miles to take part. BC Soccer
Futsal-certified coaches ran nine clinics to teach skills and tactics during
the weekend.

“We are delighted to see futsal growing in popularity in BC” said Charlie
Cuzzetto, BC Soccer Chair and lifelong futsal advocate. “Festivals like this
are growing the sport, and we are encouraging other futsal events and
leagues”.

The Olympic Oval at Richmond has now been converted from the speed skating
venue at the 2010 Winter Games to a community and high performance sports
facility, and accommodates 12 youth futsal courts.
