After years of waiting a FIFA rules league in London, Ontario has been established and is now sanctioned by the Elgin Middlesex Soccer Association.

Starting on Saturday November 7th the London Canadian Futsal League kicks off their inaugural campaign at Wheable Secondary School. With gym times booked from 2:30-7:45pm at Wheable followed up with 15 more games worth of time on Sundays at Beal Secondary School, the league has room for a total of 46 teams this season and league operator Elwin Saraccini says he will accomodate any age division that there is interest.

"We are going to be offering groups for U9 and upwards using even years all the way up to mens and also for masters (30+)." said Saraccini. "We know that there is a lot of futsal being played in the London area and we're very happy to give them the official FIFA rules version of the game."

London is one of Canada's traditional futsal hotspots, but is little known outside of Ontario circles due to past leagues operating privately without proper sanctioning. A few teams have competed at national and international events (AMF style) including the London Benfica Shockers. There is no word yet if any AMF teams will make the jump to FIFA rules futsal.

The LCFL will give teams in the region a chance to play official games and enter tournaments against other futsal clubs from around the province, something which teams and players in Toronto, only 2 hours away, are very happy to hear.

"Although we have a lot of teams in the Toronto area players always like travelling to different places and playing different teams that we don't normally play." says Canadian national goalkeeper, Roy Blanche. "Whenever we have tournaments here we always hope to see other cities come down and now that London has a sanctioned league with FIFA rules we're going to have a lot more opportunities to play these teams, it's exciting news for everyone."

With FIFA leagues in Ottawa and Toronto already established, London should immediately make an impact on the futsal scene in the southwest Ontario region. Other new futsal leagues emerging around the province will start in January and include; Peel-Halton, York Region and Durham, so it's great news to see futsal taking a huge upswing over the last year.

There will be a player registration day on Sunday October 18 & 25, 2009 at H.B. Beal Secondary School 525 Dundas Street from 2 to 6 P.M

The registration fees for the LCFL are as follows:

U9 and U10's: $650
U11-U17: $750
Senior Mens Open and Womens Open: $900
Masters (Over 30+): $900
