OLDS, ALBERTA, July 15, 2010 – Already preparing for the 2010-2011 season, the Olds College Broncos have welcomed Vic Michalchuk as the new coach for both its men's and women's Futsal teams.

Futsal, for the uninitiated, is indoor soccer as sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the international governing body of soccer.

Michalchuk said he is excited about the opportunities coaching at Olds College will provide. "Having expanded the Academic program to include four year applied Bachelor’s Degree Programs, as well as Two year Diploma programs such as Business Administration, the College has a real opportunity to recruit competitive Futsal players" said Michalchuk. "I am passionate about the challenge and have already commenced recruiting players for the upcoming year."

The new coach boasts an impressive resume that includes a stint as President of the Red Deer Soccer Association, several provincial medals in the U15 and U18 categories, receipt of the Mayor’s Recognition Awards for Athletics in Red Deer and a gold medal at Sweden's Gothia Cup -- the first win by a Canadian Team since the inception of the Gothia Cup in 1975. Michalchuk has also held numerous high profile coaching positions and has experience with international competition in countries including Brazil, Denmark, Austria
and the Czech Republic to name a few.

"Michalchuk joins us just as the Broncos move from the Alberta College Athletics League [ACAL] to the more competitive Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference [ACAC]," said Greg Lendvay, Director of Olds College Health and Wellness Services. "Having recently taken Bronze and Silver for our men's and women's teams respectively in the ACAL, we look forward to equal and even greater success this season in the ACAC."

Olds College's first competition of the upcoming season takes place at Mount Royal University in Calgary January 21-23. Their next appearance will be at home in the Ralph Klein Centre February 11-13.
